Leading Jeep Repair, Service, and Maintenance in SW Florida

Jeep Service Fort Myers Florida

Legendary is proud to be known as the Professional Jeep shop in the area. We literally have done and seen it all when it comes to jeep, 4 link lift kits, Corvette Engine Swaps, and so much more. Our technicians and service staff own and know what should be done to keep Jeeps performing at their best, especially if you have a heavily modified vehicle. It takes a knowledgeable and trustworthy facility to handle such things.

We see all too often customers that have taken their Jeep to other shops in the area, only to find out that they have problems that they did not before. We stand behind all of the work that we do.

We have all heard the Jeep slogan…

“Go anywhere, do anything.”

And it holds true, which is probably why it seems you see a Jeep everywhere you turn in Fort Myers - with Jeeps having impressive, and even unrivaled, off-road capability and a reputation for a quality vehicle it makes sense that the Jeeps are popular in Florida.  After all, having the ability to take your Jeep Wrangler or Grand Cherokee down the highway and then pulling off and going straight into uncharted terrain is a ton of fun!

Or, if the rugged terrain isn’t your scene, these vehicles can also handle well in sand, so they make great beach vehicles.  If you load up your best beach gear and take your off-road capable Jeep down to the best beaches in Southwest Florida, the Gulf breezes blowing around you as you take in the year-long summer, and you will find that it handles well in these low traction areas.

These reasons, and more, are the reason that these vehicles are so popular here in Florida - they are the perfect blend of luxury and rugged that matches the blend of Florida’s city and off-road/beach driving.

However, most Jeep owners know that Jeeps are not without their issues, and it can be hard to find a repair shop that you can trust with your Jeep.  Here at Legendary, we know Jeeps… so let us show you just how much! Our pre-purchase inspection will give you a clear picture of what you are buying, or not buying. Not all Jeeps are created equal, and we can help you make the right decision the first time.

Legendary Automotive and Truck Service knows Jeeps

We know Jeeps, and we know the unique needs that these vehicles have.  It doesn’t matter which type of Jeep you are looking to have serviced.  After all, the collection of Jeep vehicles is more than just the most popular models.  As of September 2020, the latest models offered are:

  • Jeep Wrangler
  • Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • Jeep Renegade
  • Jeep Compass
  • Jeep Gladiator

This does not include other vehicles (such as the Jeep Crossover), or the number of different sub-models and optional add-ons.  It is important to note that each of these models is a little different, and while it has been said that Jeep stands for “just enough essential parts”, the essential parts vary model to model, and the maintenance and repairs needs can also vary.

The Jeep Wrangler

There has been an ongoing rumor that the Wrangler is expensive to maintain, and this is a reason that some people choose to avoid these fun and exciting vehicles.

The bad news is that your standard maintenance costs of a Wrangler are going to be higher than most vehicles…

...by about $20 a year.

It's true - the average annual cost of pure maintenance on modern cars, trucks, and SUVs in the United States is around $630 per year, and the Wrangler will run you closer to $650 per year.  Of course, this does not include any major repairs that must be done, but it does show that proper maintenance of your Wrangler will not cost you much more than another SUV would.

The big issue that is a concern is what is known as the “death wobble” with the Wranglers.  This is a problem that has been ongoing since 2012 and has typically required the replacement of the shock dampener in the steering column.  Considered a side effect of the solid front axle that the Jeep Wrangler has, this problem also affects other vehicles that have a similar axle, but none have had this issue as well publicized as the Wrangler has.

In the end, the Wrangler is still a highly reliable vehicle, and it is one that is worth purchasing if you are interested in the functionality and versatility that this popular SUV has to offer.

Jeep Cherokee / Jeep Grand Cherokee

These two vehicles are going to be lumped together into the same section because they are almost identical in function and purpose - it's just that one is a crossover SUV (The Jeep Cherokee) and the other is a full-size SUV (the Jeep Grand Cherokee).  Of course, this means that the Cherokee has an engine that is two-thirds the size of the Grand Cherokee, and it carries a much lower price tag.

In the end, the desire for one of these vehicles over the other comes down to the desire for size, space, and power compared with the affordability or miles-per-gallon requirements that you have.

Whether you are considering the Jeep Cherokee or the Jeep Grand Cherokee, there are a number of reasons to purchase these vehicles.  The first is that these vehicles are considered the most versatile SUVs that are available on the market, and the newer models offer great technological improvements, and they offer some of the best performance of any vehicles on the market.

However, while there are good points to the Jeep Cherokees, they can get very expensive as you add features to the vehicle, and each feature you add might require its own repairs or maintenance.  This can cause the cost of ownership to skyrocket, making ownership more of a burden than a blessing.

Jeep Renegade

As a new addition to the Jeep family, existing for only about the last five years, the Renegade has a vast number of options that are not easily available with a number of other vehicles that Jeep offers.  In fact, there are a large number of options for advanced safety features, and there are also a number of cosmetic offers to choose from.

In addition to the safety and cosmetic features, the vehicle is considered unstoppable off-road, with the higher-powered Trailhawk submodel considered superior even to the Grand Cherokee.  Between the off-road abilities, knobs to change the Selec-Terrain technology to meet the changes in weather and conditions, and the options available the Renegade is hard to beat!

However, despite the pros of this vehicle, some users have complained of very large blind spots, very poor fuel economy, and that the engine itself feels sluggish when first starting.

Jeep Compass

Many people that seek the thrills that Jeep vehicles can provide choose not to get a Jeep because they are seeking the driveability and compact nature associated with a midsize sedan.  Indeed, the way a sedan handles on standard roadways is generally considered superior to SUVs, so we understand this argument.

Jeep offers an answer to this argument by presenting the Compass as a “subcompact crossover SUV”.  Its purpose is to offer the driveability, maneuverability, and comfort associated with the typical sedan while offering the internal space and excitement of an SUV.

The Compass offers a long list of pros to people that seek to purchase these comfortable SUV crossovers.  Unlike the Renegade, it is noted for having excellent engine performance, and like all Jeep vehicles it is well noted for its off-road performance.  The Compass also gets high ratings in style, safety, and seating capacity/interior.

Despite the great benefits, the fuel economy is not what many expected from an SUV crossover, with the range of 25 to 27 being the top average miles per gallon that can be expected.  It should also be noted that the transmission seems to take too long to shift, and the result is that people are not as happy with this vehicle as they could be, despite the features available.

Jeep Renegade

Unlike the other vehicles on this list, the Renegade is a pickup truck that is designed for off-road usage.  Right away, the absolute coolest thing about this truck is that it is a convertible truck, and it is currently (as of September 2020) the only one that is on the market.  This affords you the opportunity to tow your boat (due to the great towing abilities of the Renegade) with the top down to enjoy the best of all worlds when heading out to launch your boat!

The downsides for most consumers relate to the fact that this vehicle has limited options.  There is only one engine option, and there is only one bed and cab configuration.  Additionally, as a compact pickup truck, there is both a high price tag and a low MPG.
