SUMMER TIPS: FLUID LEVELS

Summer Sizzle? Keep Your Car Cool with Proper Fluid Levels!

Summer heat can be brutal on your car, and keeping an eye on fluid levels is more important than ever. Just like us, your car needs to stay hydrated to function properly and avoid overheating. Here’s what you need to know about summer fluid checks:

Crucial Coolant Check:

Coolant (Antifreeze): The MVP of summer car care! Coolant regulates engine temperature. Check the level regularly throughout summer. Refer to your owner’s manual for proper fill levels and recommended coolant type.

Tip: Consider a coolant flush and refill if your car is due for scheduled maintenance. A fresh coolant mix ensures optimal performance.
Maintaining a Healthy Oil Level:

Engine Oil: Motor oil lubricates moving engine parts and reduces friction. Hot weather can cause oil to thin out, so checking the level is essential. Consult your owner’s manual for recommended oil type and how often to check the level (typically every month or two).

Top-Up Wisely: If your oil level is low, add only enough to reach the recommended fill level on the dipstick. Don’t overfill!

Brake Fluid Matters:

Brake Fluid: Hydraulic fluid that transmits pressure when you apply the brakes. Brake fluid levels should remain constant. A decrease can indicate a leak, which is a serious safety concern.
See a Mechanic: If you notice a drop in brake fluid level, don’t drive the car. Get it towed to a mechanic for a professional inspection to identify and fix the leak.
Other Fluids to Consider:

Windshield Wiper Fluid: Essential for maintaining clear visibility, especially during summer rain showers. Top up the reservoir with a summer-appropriate washer fluid that won’t freeze at high temperatures.

Power Steering Fluid: Lubricates the power steering system for smoother steering. Consult your owner’s manual for recommended checks and top-up procedures, if needed.

Remember: Checking fluid levels is a quick and easy task you can do yourself. Keeping them topped up throughout the summer ensures your car stays cool, lubricated, and operates safely on those hot summer roads!

Bonus Tip: Park in the shade whenever possible to minimize heat buildup inside the car, reducing stress on the cooling system.
